Deep Work Timer

Ninety minutes is the classic deep work block - roughly one ultradian cycle, and about as long as most people can hold hard focus before quality drops. One problem, no tab switching, no messages, until the clock runs out.

What it is good for

How to use it

  1. Press Start, or hit the space bar.
  2. Press F for fullscreen so the countdown stays readable at a glance.
  3. Work until it blinks. The last ten seconds flash red, then it chimes.
  4. Need a different length? Use the presets, or type any number of minutes into the custom field.

Frequently asked questions

How do I set a 90 minute timer?

Open this page and press Start, or hit the space bar - the countdown is already loaded with 90 minutes. Press F for fullscreen if you want to read it from across the room, and use the custom field to switch to any other duration.

Does the timer keep running if I switch tabs?

Yes. The countdown is calculated from a fixed end time rather than counted tick by tick, so background throttling cannot make it drift. The remaining time also appears in the browser tab title while you work in another tab.

Does it make a sound when the time is up?

Yes, it chimes three times and the clock turns red. The last ten seconds blink as a warning, and the chime can be muted with the speaker button.

Is this timer free?

Yes, it is completely free, needs no account, and runs entirely in your browser - nothing is sent to a server.
